Nancy Lee (Greenwood) Benwell
Nancy L. Benwell, 80, a resident of Franklin died at her home Wednesday, June 17, 2020, following a period of failing health with family at her side who had been caregivers during her illness. Nancy was born in Laconia, October 14, 1939, daughter of the late, George and Alice (Carignan) Greenwood. She schooled in Tilton and was a graduate of Tilton Northfield High School, class of 1957. She was employed with the Arwood Corporation in Northfield for over thirteen years. She moved to Florida in 1985 and worked there before moving home to Belmont in 2004 to be with her family. In 2013 she moved in with her daughter Patricia in Franklin. Nancy was a member of the VFW, Post # 1698 in Franklin. She was active with the Post and spending time with her family and playing cards. Nancy was involved with serving suppers on Friday nights at the VFW and danced to the Tripple Creek Band and others that played while she was there. She was a member of the Laconia Rod and Gun Club. As most remember Nancy, she enjoyed a fun time and she made it clear when she made her mind up!! She was of Catholic Faith. She is now safely home with her husband James Benwell who died in 1982. She was also predeceased by her mom and dad, brother, George N. Greenwood Jr., sister, Charlotte Greenwood Bowne and great granddaughter, Kayleen Lorraine Chamberlain.
She leaves her daughters, Cheryl A. Nowell and her husband Earl of South Carolina, Patricia A. King and her husband Wayne Jr. of Franklin and sister, Beatrice M. Vaillancourt of Northfield. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Ten grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Following Nancy’s wishes, there are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at St. John Cemetery, Sanborn Road in Tilton, Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 11:00 AM with burial to follow with her husband James.
It was requested by Nancy, that donations in her name be made to the Activity Fund, New Hampshire State Veterans Home, 139 Winter St, Tilton, NH 03276
