Ruth E. Gardner
Ruth E. Gardner, 93, a resident of the New Hampshire Veteran's Home for several years, died there February 20, 2018 following a decline in her health. She was born in Laconia, March 15, 1924, daughter of Amos Parker and Sylvania (Cheney) Parker. Ruth spent her youth in Laconia and graduated from Towle High School, class of 1943. She lived in Newport, NH for over 35 years, later moving to Canaan where she resided for several years. She was a homemaker and worked for a short time with New England Telephone Company in Newport, NH. Ruth served as a WAC, during WW II. She was assigned to the 400th and 403rd Army Service Forces in California, playing clarinet in a military band. She was discharged in 1946 from the 400th Army Service Forces Band in Fort Mason, California. Ruth was predeceased by sons, Keith, Rodney and daughter Gale Gardner. She leaves, her son, John Gardner of Franklin, NH, daughters, Caprice Carpenter of Grafton and Lynette Dundon of Elizabeth, Colorado Numerous grand and great grandchildren
A calling hour will be held, Sunday, March 4, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road (584 West Main St.) in Tilton, NH A service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Memorial Home, Spring burial with military honors will be held later in the spring at Union Cemetery in Laconia, NH.
Assisting with arrangements is the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home in Tilton.
