Raymond Harry Simoneau
Raymond H. Simoneau, 85, a resident of Belmont for the past 20 years died at his home, Saturday, September 15, 2018 following a period of failing health. Ray was born in Laconia, June 29, 1933, son of the late Raymond A. and Mertice Isabele (Colby) Simoneau. He resided in Laconia for 65 years until his move to Belmont. He decided at the age of 17 to enlist in the U. S. Army and served three years during the Korean Conflict . He was the recipient of several medals including the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze stars. He reenlisted and served another 3 years as a recruiter and was discharged in Laconia in 1956 attaining the rank of Sgt (T) .
Ray was born to be a salesman. Upon his discharge, he worked in sales for an ale company and then sold insurance until he found his niche in the real estate business. He learned the ropes working for other realtors before starting his own firm, Winnisquam Realty. He ultimately became a founding member of the commercial sales division of Coldwell Banker Steve Weeks Realtors in Laconia. Ray sold real estate for 50 successful years. In addition to real estate, he opened the first automatic car wash in Franklin and also sold used cars along with a vehicle repair business at the car wash location. He was truly a self-made man whose lifetime motto was, “If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.”
With his smile and charming personality, Ray was a friend to those who needed one. He was a member of the Elks and the VFW. He was also involved in racing sled dogs as a young man, driving a team of his own dogs and later on, driving a team for another team owner. Later in life, golf became his passion. He was lucky enough to have made a hole in one twice during his years playing. His greatest joy in life was his family. He took great pride in teaching them that honor, honesty, perseverance and hard work was the key to success.
In addition to his parents Ray was predeceased by a brother, Richard Simoneau of Modesto, CA and a sister, Patrica Storm of Merrimack, NH. He leaves his long time companion, Terri Gordon of Belmont and four daughters, Bonnie (Simoneau) Reed and her husband Dennis of Franklin; Cynthia (Simoneau) Pescinski and her husband Richard of Lakewood Ranch, FL; Tamera (Simoneau) Pescinski of Bradenton, FL; and Rae (Simoneau) Mulligan and her husband Mark of Sarasota, FL. He leaves six grandchildren, Bryan Burrows and his wife Shelley Muzsek of Newark, CA; Eric Pescinski and his wife, Gem of Lakewood Ranch, FL; Carla Dine and her husband Andy of Bradenton, FL; Stephanie Pescinski of Gilford, NH, and Piper and Quinn Mulligan of Sarasota, FL. He leaves 8 great-grandchildren, Halle Grace Carpenter; Caleb, Raelyn and Alex Dine; Cayden Pescinski, and Darian, Tyler and Brandon Mudge. He also leaves a sister, Pamela Chapman of Laconia and generational nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road (584 West Main St.) in Tilton.
Ray will be interred with a prayer service and military honors on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 1:30 pm in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Ray may make a memorial donation in his name to the Central NH Visiting Nurses Association or the American Cancer Society.
