Dorothy "Dot" S. (Seamans) Benham
Dorothy S. Benham, 82, a lifelong resident of Franklin died Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at the Peabody Home in Franklin, following a lengthy period of failing health. Dot was born in Franklin January 28th. 1935, daughter of Richard G. Seamans Sr. and Ruth (Holmes) Seamans.
Dot "Sister" was a graduate of Franklin High School, Class of 1952. She went on to study nursing at the Massachusetts General Hospital school of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse, and was awarded her cap by MGH in 1955.
She stayed at the Mass General for several years, specializing in recovery room work. She later worked at the Franklin Hospital in that capacity as well as Emergency Room and supervisory capacities, retiring after working as an R.N. for over 50 years. She also volunteered with the Franklin Fire Dept Rescue for several years.
Dot was a longtime member of the Franklin Unitarian Church, and for many years she participated in the Church Fair, selling some beautiful wreaths and berry bowls she had created.
Dot had a great interest in geneology and her intensive research covered several centuries of all sides of her family, and she was a member of the New Hampshire Geneological Society, as well as a member of the New Hampshire Historical Society.
Dot leaves her husband of 58 years, John R, Benham, of Franklin, She and John enjoyed travel and spending summers at Bear Island on Lake Winnipesaukee, where many wonderful family memories were made.
Dot also leaves a son, John E.Benham and his wife Beth of Nottingham as well a daughter Hilary and her husband Mark of New Hampton.
Grandchildren are; J. Matthew Benham and Jillian Benham, and Rick Charest and Kelly Charest
She also leaves her brother Sidney H. Seamans, and sister Diane M. Seamans, both of Franklin. She is predeceased by her loving brother, Richard G Seamans Jr.
Her family was most important to her, and along with her immediate family she leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews who will truly miss her caring and wit.
Friends and family are welcome to celebrate Dorothy's life, Tuesday, September 12, 2017, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm with a brief message shared by a family friend closing the celebration, at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Rd. (584 West Main St. ) Tilton, N.H.
Private burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy's family asks that memorial contributions, in memory of Dot, be sent to The Peabody Home, 24 Peabody Place, Franklin, N.H. 03235
