Daniel C. HoweJanuary 16, 1947 ~ May 11, 2017 (age 70)
Daniel C. Howe of Gaza Corner in Sanbornton died, Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Concord Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. His passing was peaceful and he was surrounded by family and a very supportive and skilled Hospice and Nursing staff.
He was born in Franklin Hospital, Franklin, NH to the late Clayton and Daisy ”Okie” (Carleton) Howe on January 16, 1947. He was New Hampshire born and raised with the exception of four years in the Navy during the Vietnam Era, when he proudly served his country.
Daniel graduated from Franklin High School, class of 1965, and received an Associate Degree in Auto Mechanics from Lakes Region Community College. Dan was a member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks, BPOE # 1280, VFW, Post # 1698 in Franklin and the American Legion, Post # 49 in Northfield.
Dan was an independent spirit who lived life on his own terms. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed snowmobiling and caring for the Howe Family Farm, maintaining the brush around the fields, pond and the Emerson Brook. He attended the Stark Country Fiddle Contest for over thirty consecutive years. Special memories were spent each summer with his lifelong friend Brad Crosby, at Brad's camp in Stark, NH, where he also enjoyed teaching the next generation his outstanding ability to fish.
Dan retired in 2009 from Evroks Corp. where he worked as a lead carpenter since 1989, and was known affectionately as “dad” by his co-workers. He worked on many of the State’s bridges, especially those across rivers , the interstate and community roads.
He is survived by his son Randall Carleton Howe and his wife Cindy of Andover, five grandchildren, Dylan, Aura, Colton, James and Bridgette. Two brothers, Richard E. Howe and his wife Anne, Timothy C. Howe and his wife Valerie of Sanbornton, a sister, Deborah L. Howe of Santa Monica, Ca. and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 11-6 at the Elks Club on Central St. in Franklin, NH. A committal service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 3:00 PM at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
Assisting the Howe family is the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home in Tilton.
