William J. Caveney
William J. Caveney, 93, a lifelong resident of Northfield died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at the Concord Hospital following a period of failing health. He was born in Northfield, November 28, 1916, son of Edwin R. and Nellie L. (Rand)Caveney. Bill graduated from the Tilton School in Tilton in 1934. During his younger years he worked with his brother as a truck driver and in the construction business. He was employed for over thirty five years at the former John-Manville ( later Quinn-T Corp.) as a paper maker and then as a fireman. He was a member of the Tilton-Northfield United Methodist Church in Tilton. During WW II Bill served with the U. S. Army Air Corps, 29th Tactical Control Group as a sergeant, serving from 1943-1945. Proud of his service, Bill served during the European, African and Middle Eastern Theater Campaigns, throughout Bath, Liverpool, Belgium, France and Germany. He was a airplane and engine mechanic. He had been a member of the American Legion, Post # 49 in Northfield for over 70 years, probably it’s oldest member and was also a member of the NRA. He and his late wife were active with the local Grange for many years.
IN HIS LIFE: He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Susan Caveney in 1949 and his wife of 53 years, Virginia A. (DuBois) Caveney.
Most important to Bill was family. Spending time with his children, watching his grandchildren grow, attending their first involvement with sports during grade school, into their high school and college games was the highlight of his life. He taught his children and grandchildren about life, teaching them to hunt and fish, letting them know the importance of growing their own produce, traveling to Maine to hunt at Shin Pond, being at Highland Lake in Andover for the first day of fishing season. He loved to travel to the White Mountains as often as he could. His family includes,

Calling hours will be Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton.
A prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM.
Burial will be in the spring in Park Cemetery in Tilton .
