Doris E. (Sweatt) Rowell
Doris E. Rowell, 74, a longtime resident of Lake Shore Drive in Franklin died peacefully Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen following a period of failing health. She was born in Colebrook, NH, July 29, 1935, daughter of the late George A. and Ethel (Wheelock) Sweatt. Doris was a graduate of Penacook High School and had resided in Franklin for over 50 years. A local artist, Doris owned Dot’s Arts and Crafts on Central St. in Franklin for many years. Her artwork graces the homes of many in the Lakes Region and beyond. For many years Doris, along with her husband, Richard “Dick” C. Rowell Sr. owned the Rowell Furniture Factory Outlet Store, Rowell’s Master TV and Antenna Service and Rowell Rental Properties, all located in Franklin. During her two year stay at the Merrimack County Home, Doris experienced wonderful care for which she was most grateful. She was predeceased by a daughter, Debra Paquette in 1984, her son Richard “Dickie” Rowell Jr. in 2001 and her husband of 53 years, Richard Rowell Sr. in 2008. She was also predeceased by a brother, Roger Sweatt and sister, Mary Milliken. Her family includes,

Calling hours will be held Monday, January 4, 2010, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. A funeral service will follow in the Memorial Home at 3:00 PM. Spring burial will be in Park Cemetery in Tilton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Doris’ name may be made to the Rowell Family Scholarship Fund, in care of any Franklin Savings Bank branches. The Rowell Family Scholarship Fund benefits local area graduating seniors who plan to further his or her education.
