Walter Owen Dow
Walter O. Dow, 95, a lifelong resident of Franklin died , Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Franklin Regional Hospital following a period of failing health. Walter was born in Franklin, December 29, 1921, son of Walter I. and Rose (Defosses) Dow. He attended Franklin Schools, leaving following 10th grade to work at the former Hebert Manufacturing Foundry in Franklin. He received his GED high school diploma at the age of 53. Walter went on to serve his country in 1942. He served with the U. S. Army Medical Detachment, 28th General Hospital. He supervised personnel in medical units, dispensaries and preparation of medical reports and records. He served in the European Theatre for 20 months, discharged in 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. He later worked for of 23 years with the former J. P. Stevens Woolen Mill and retired as a supervisor following 12 years with the Merrimack County Jail in Boscawen. He always looked forward to planting his vegetable garden, sharing it with family and friends. He found great comfort and companionship, always having a cat in his home by his side. Walter was a life member of the Franklin VFW, Post # 1698. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Faye (Boyce) Dow who died in 2012. His family includes,

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road (584 West Main St.) in Tilton.
A brief prayer service with military honors will be held Monday, November 27th at 11:00 A.M. at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 D. W. Highway, Boscawen. Burial will follow, where he will rest with his wife, Faye.
